Marc in the Gulf War - 1991 Welcome to VeteransAgainstTheWar.com. This site's purpose is to allow open discussion about the war in Iraq. I felt this site was necessary as when people say they are against the war their patriotism is questioned. As a veteran, I feel no one has the right to question my patriotism, yet I am vehemently against this war. My in depth thoughts can be found here. Let us here yours. Anyone can make posts or comments here simply by registering and assigning yourself your own login and password. You don't need to be a veteran. However, if you are a veteran, please state so in your post or comments. You don't have to be against the war either to post or comment. We want to hear all sides, just don't question another veterans patriotism. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. We are looking to organize and setup peaceful protests throughout the country to get people more involved. Perhaps, united, we can make a difference and bring our soldiers home and ready to go where they are most needed. Remember, whether you support the war or not, always support our soldiers as they make the ultimate sacrifice to be the guardians of our freedom.

For The War, Aginst The Lead

I would have to state that I believe we have to go into Iraq. However, it needs better plans in the tactical side of war. The US went stright up the middle and going up the middle usually ends in a surround at an estimation from 80 to 90 percent. However, if we back out we are opening the Iraqian parliament and the Iraqian citizens for a takeover by the terrorist group. If the terrorist gained control, they would more likely recruit more followers or force citizens to join aginst there fight. Being they are aginst the US, we would have to deail with people would might have been forced to join. Since the US precense is the dominating backbone in maintain the Iraqian parliament power, by withdrawling might end in a terrorist control over Iraq or the citizens of Iraq would go into turmoil over who leads. If one of the groups surpresses power over the other, there would be a civil war between the two groups for equality. If they don’t realize to solve for a equality lesson, then the victor would stripp the loser of its rights and that generates more hate and result to more violence.
By backing out of Iraq we would be risking one of two solutions, the fall of Iraq to terrorist or the two groups would be at eachothers throats. The US presence is maintainning peace in Iraq as well fighting off terrorists in left over soldiers from Sadam Hussein’s regime. If backing out is a solution, then we would eith be creating more problems for us if the terrorists take over or watching as the two groups of Iraq kill one another over political power.
What I say is that we need a better plan in the war in Iraq, besides letting the soldiers sit and patrol and wait for their demise. We need a better tactic on the US side, not a submissive retreat. For if we back out, we might leave behind a weakened parliament which can’t hold its own power and open it up for a terrorist takeover or the two groups in Iraq might go after eachother for political power. They need to see unification aginst the terortists or taught to treat each side equally to maintain a stable government.

We haven’t learned yet

I strongly oppose the War in Iraq for two reasons. #1. The day before the war started Vice President Cheney signed a open dollar contract with Haliburton, this was done for only one reason if they control the oil out of Iraq they will control the most powerful influence on the priceof it. . I am a Vietnam Veteran and any Veteran of that war knows you can’t fight a war a win with a enemy you cannot see. The tattics the terroist are using are the same as the North Vietnamese used on us. The higher our numbers of dead and wounded get the more the public in this country will be opposed to it and our governments policies towards it. Evidently our public learned something from Vietnam too bad this administration’s leaders skipped the lessons of Vietnam

Protests

I know there are many that do not approve of Bush’s invasion in Iraq after the 9/11 attack. I am not trying to bash on these people and I am not saying they don’t have pride in their country. I am simple saying my opinion on this issue. I understand that many don’t agree with what is happening but Bush is are President and we as in are country voted Bush in to the position. I understand many may not have, but the majority did. I know many don’t support the war but as an American citizen you have a duty to protect and help your country when in need and right now is a time in need. I am not saying you should give up your ideas and beliefs because that’s what America is about, being able to have a different opinion. Although to have that opinion all of America needs to come together and do something for a greater cause. You might not support the war but protesting is not going to stop it and maybe if you put your belief aside and did something for a better cause the war might be over a lot sooner.

I watched a program featuring the rhetoric of Lyndon B. Johnson. I was taken aback by the fact that his rhetoric to attempt the justification for Vietnam was almost identical to George Bush’s rhetoric to try to justify Iraq. Amazing! I went to Vietnam in 1965, just when things were getting heated up good, and came home in ‘66. Now, I have two young grandsons, approaching service age and I have had them both promise me they would not join the military but rather, attend college and become somebody. I never thought I would do that since I am retired from the Army but I am also educated. (Ph.D.-education). Why sacrifice my sons to cannon fodder for Bush?? We need to get OUT of Iraq.
